About Design Bloke

I’m a multi-discipline, ideas-led freelance graphic designer. With over 20 years experience working with a variety of businesses in various sectors.

I have the knowledge and technical know-how to bring ideas to life.

Where it all began…

With a childhood spent lying on the living room floor with paper and 10 million pencils, pens, and watercolours, i’ve always been scribbling one thing or the other.

Throughout school, looking forward to art class, screen-printing t-shirts, developing technique. Then came college and the discovery of the Apple Mac, Photoshop (the first one), the joys of Illustrator and the marvel of desk top publishing. I was taught photography skills as well as the beginnings of a career long deep dive into the capabilities of the Adobe suite of design and editing apps.

The result was an HND in Graphic Design and the next three years of university level study to look forward to.

Development of Skills…

Years of learning, exploring and development followed and I emerged with a BA Honours in Graphic Design from Cumbria Institute of the Arts.

Since then, I’ve graphically designed for public sector, private sector on small brands and big players. I’ve worked agency, and in-house, with major global car brands in the motoring world, to major Scottish hotel brands in the hospitality sector.

I design, artwork, photograph, polish, create, immerse… all to make your brand look better and deliver.

I’ve been here throughout the digital revolution so on top of my traditional designing for print qualifications, I also have vast experience of working in pixels as well as mm and know the difference between production artwork being 300dpi with 3mm bleed for your sales brochure, and a 3 frame gif limited to 100kb for your latest online display ad.

What the future holds…

…working with brands in the mountain sports and events world and with a life-long love of cars bagging that automotive client would be a dream come true. That, would put me in my happy place.
